About Kirby Building Systems
Kirby Building Systems began in 1955 as a general contracting firm in Houston, TX. By 1959, the company began to sell and fabricate its own line of steel buildings under the name of Mes -Tex Steel Buildings, with all product produced out of the Houston, TX plant. The business grew steadily, and within two years, the company began to sell metal buildings on a regional basis. By 1964, a growing network of Authorized Builders had enabled the company to expand nationally. In 1966, the company was purchased by Kirby Industries, and was renamed Kirby Building Systems, Inc. Investment by the Kirby Industries parent company financed ongoing growth, and in October of 1973, a second plant was built in Portland, TN to support the shipment of product to the Eastern areas of the United States from its 32+ acre facility.
In August, 2007, Kirby Building Systems, Inc. was acquired by the Nucor Corporation and renamed to Kirby Building Systems, LLC. The company currently sells to a global network of Builders, which includes presence in 35 of the 50 United States, as well as Great Britain, Africa, South America, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and the Caribbean. Kirby is proud to be called a Nucor Company, part of a $16 Billion organization that is currently the 5th largest steel company in the world, and was named in 2006 as #1 Best Company on Forbes 50 List.
